WBBL Match Official appointments announced

11-291118 WBBL announcement

Cricket Australia has announced the match officials for the first half of the WBBL competition confirming the umpires, match referees and scorers who will feature in the pre-Christmas matches.

While the majority of umpire appointments for the competition will be filled by members of the State and Territory Umpire Panels, members from CA’s Supplementary Umpire Panel will be well represented in the televised matches and will fill all TV Umpire appointments.

In Tasmania, former Zimbabwean international umpire Jerry Matibiri has this month joined Cricket Tasmania’s State Umpire Panel. Matibiri – who has umpired in eight Tests, 45 One Day Internationals and 25 T20 internationals as either an on-field or third umpire – brings a wealth of cricket knowledge to their State Panel and will feature in several WBBL matches.

While Andrew Hamilton and Dean Trigg have previously umpired matches in the former Women’s National T20 competition, they are among nine umpires who will be making their WBBL debut across this season. They join Greg Azzopardi, Berend du Plessis, Roberto Howard, Jerry Matibiri, Eloise Sheridan, Harry Singh, and Mattis van Eck. Two referees will also make their WBBL debuts, namely David Gilbert and Kepler Wessels.

Perhaps the most significant milestone however will occur at the Adelaide Oval on 23 December when umpires Claire Polosak and Eloise Sheridan will stand together, the first time that there has been two female on-field umpires in control of a professional cricket match in Australia.
