Under 19 Male National Championships Final Umpire Appointments

Cricket Australia Development Umpire Panel Member Darren Close and New South Wales State Panel Umpire Troy Penman have been appointed to the Final of the CA Under 19 Male National Championships between NSW Metro and the CA XI at Blundstone Arena.

For Tasmanian Close, this year’s Final will be his second consecutive Under 19 Final having stood in last season’s decider in Adelaide. Close possesses a significant amount of experience having already umpired 20 First-Class matches.

Close’s umpiring journey was interrupted when he relocated to the United Kingdom for work commitments before returning to Australian shores two seasons ago. Close has officiated across other domestic formats including the Rebel WBBL; WNCL and Toyota Futures League. Close was earlier this year elevated to the Cricket Australia’s Development Panel and has had an excellent tournament to date.

For New South Welshman Penman, today’s appointment is another milestone and marks a successful tournament. Penman stood in last season’s Under 17 Male National Championships Final in Brisbane. He also managed to back that performance up with appointment to last season’s Under 19 Championships in Adelaide. Penman has also officiated in professional competitions the Rebel WBBL, WNCL and Toyota Futures League. He has combined this with full Premier Cricket commitments where he is approaching 100 Premier Matches in Sydney.

The Final between NSW Metro and the CA XI will be a rare Day/Night Fixture and is being live streamed on cricket.com.au here. The Final will be overseen by former Test Umpire Steve Davis who will fulfill the duties of Match Referee.
