Match Referee Bob Stratford makes Women’s Test Match Debut

30 September 2021

Bob Stratford

International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket Australia (CA) Match Referee Bob Stratford makes his Women’s Test Match debut today when Australia play India in the Day/Night Test Match at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast.

For several years, Stratford has held the dual role on the ICC International Panel of Match Referees and Cricket Australia Match Referee Panel. In that time, Stratford has overseen 17 Women’s One Day Internationals and 10 Women’s T20 Internationals as match referee. Stratford will add to this tally next week when he will oversee the final component of this inaugural India/Australia series, the three T20 Internationals to be held next week. In his previous career as an on-field umpire, Stratford stood on-field in two Women’s ODIs in the 1990s.

On the Australian domestic front, Stratford has been appointed match referee to 76 First-Class matches including a remarkable five Sheffield Shield Finals. In the 50-over format, Stratford has overseen an equally impressive 70 List-A matches including six Domestic One Day Cup Finals. In the shortest format, Stratford has officiated 83 KFC BBL matches including six Finals.

In officiating this Test Match, Stratford will become just the fifth Australian Match Referee to oversee a Women’s Test Match. Stratford will form part of the five-member Playing Control Team (PCT) that has successfully overseen the One Day International component of the multi-format India/Australia Women’s International Series. Stratford will team up with on-field umpires Phil Gillespie and Claire Polosak, Third Umpire Bruce Oxenford and Fourth Umpire Eloise Sheridan. Following the Test Match, the series will culminate in three T20 Internationals to be played at Metricon Stadium starting next week.
