Queensland umpire Steve Dionysius has been elevated to the Cricket Australia (CA) Supplementary Umpire Panel (SUP) for season 2022/23.

Dionysius’ elevation comes after almost a decade of combining his Premier Cricket commitments with CA competition and tournament matches. Dionysius was appointed to the Queensland State Umpire Panel prior to the 2013/14 season. He made his first appearance in a CA competition match in October 2013 when Queensland played Tasmania in the Women’s Domestic T20 competition which was the forerunner to the WBBL. During the same season, Dionysius stood in Toyota Futures’ League (now Second XI), WNCL matches and officiated as fourth umpire in the KFC BBL. In 2016/17, Dionysius was appointed to officiate his first CA Underage National Championships when he stood in the Under 17 Male tournament in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Dionysius was appointed to the same tournament the following season in 2017/18 where he stood in the Final. In 2018/19 Dionysius was appointed to the CA Under 19 Male National Championships for the first time in Adelaide and capped the season by being named the Queensland Premier Cricket First-Grade Umpire of the Year.

The 2019/20 season saw Dionysius reach a number of significant umpiring milestones. First, he was appointed to the CA Under 19 Male National Championships in Perth where he went on the stand in the Final between NSW Metro and Victoria Country. Dionysius was then appointed to the Queensland Premier Cricket One-Day Final and was once again named First-Grade Umpire of the Year. In the pandemic-affected seasons since, Dionysius has been appointed to the Queensland Premier Cricket Grand Finals for the last two years running and was again appointed to the most recent CA Under 19 Male National Championships in MacKay, again standing in the Final.

Dionysius joins Sharad Patel, Claire Polosak, Troy Penman, Eloise Sheridan and David Taylor on the SUP for the 2022/23 season.
