Australian Cricket Thanks Match Referees

Australian Cricket thanks and recognises the contribution made by Supplementary Match Referees.

Supplementary Match Referees Tim Donahoo, Neil Findlay, Damian Herft, Terry Prue and Ian Thomas have all overseen professional cricket matches in Australia in recent seasons. All were appointed to the Cricket Australia (CA) Supplementary Match Referees prior to the 2017/18 season.

Following on from a significant on-field umpiring career that included Domestic One Day Cup, Women’s One Day International and WNCL matches, Donahoo primarily oversaw matches in the rebel WBBL and WNCL competition. As a Match Referee, Donahoo officiated in one Women’s Test Match and two Women’s One Day Internationals. Donahoo also has 18 rebel WBBL and eight WNCL matches to his name. As part of the SRP, Donahoo also officiated in CA Underage tournaments through his tenure, a significant contribution to match refereeing in Australia.

Neil Findlay officiated in a total of 16 rebel WBBL and six WNCL matches over the last three seasons. A highly respected on-field umpire in Sydney Grade and Illawarra District Cricket, Findlay’s match and tournament referee expertise were also utilised in CA Underage and Country Cricket Tournaments during his tenure. Off the field, Findlay continues his involvement in the development of umpires in the Illawarra area south of Sydney.

Damian Herft was appointed Match Referee in 22 rebel WBBL matches whilst serving on the SRP. Herft also officiated in WNCL and Toyota Second XI matches. An experienced on-field umpire in Victorian Premier Cricket with over 200 First-Grade matches to his name, Herft also officiated as a match referee in CA Underage National Championships during his tenure. Herft’s service to cricket continues with his involvement in the development of umpires in Victoria.

Terry Prue’s involvement with Australian Cricket dates back to the 1983/83 season when he first stood on-field in a Domestic One Day Cup Match. Prue also stood in 54 Sheffield Shield matches including three consecutive Finals in the 1990’s. Prue reached the pinnacle in umpiring standing in nine Test Matches and 38 One Day Internationals. As a Match Referee, Prue officiated in six First-Class and ten List-A matches. In addition, Prue was appointed Match Referee in 46 Women’s Big Bash and 24 WNCL matches as well as officiating in CA National Underage Championships.

Ian Thomas was first appointed as Match Referee to the rebel WBBL in the 2016/17 and went on to officiate 32 matches in total. As part of the SRP, Thomas also officiated in three WNCL and two Toyota Second XI matches. Thomas’ refereeing career followed a highly decorated on-field umpiring career standing in eight One Day Internationals, 41 First-Class and 22 Domestic One Day matches including the 1987/88 Final on debut. Thomas’ officiating career spans over three decades on and off the field and covering cricket from community to international level.
