Sheffield Shield Final Match Officials
Cricket Australia have announced the Match Officials appointments for the 2016/17 Sheffield Shield Final between Victoria and South Australia at Traeger Park, Alice SpringsSimon Fry and Paul Wilson have been appointed as on-field umpires for the game starting on Sunday, whilst Sam Nogajski is Third Umpire. Overseeing proceedings of the five-day fixture will be Match Referee Bob Stratford.
The Sheffield Shield Final caps off a remarkable season for Fry who has combined his domestic commitments with ICC Test and ODI appointments. Fry’s international commitments saw him travel from the UK for six One-Day Internationals, to New Zealand for the Pakistan Test Series and then on to India as a late replacement for the injured Paul Reiffel in the England Test Series. On top of those appointments, Fry officiated in the home One Day International Series featuring Pakistan. Fry was unavailable for selection to the Sheffield Shield Final in 2015/16 due to his commitments with the ICC T20 World Cup in India.
Wilson is appointed to his second consecutive Sheffield Shield Final after standing in last season’s decider between South Australia and Victoria. Wilson has also combined a busy international and domestic season standing in two One Day Internationals and appointed to the 3rd Test between Australia and Pakistan as 4th Umpire. Wilson’s domestic season saw him appointed to the Finals of both the Matador BBQ’s One Day Domestic Cup in October and the KFC BBL 06 in January. The Sheffield Shield Final completes the treble of domestic cricket Finals for Wilson this season.
Third Umpire Sam Nogajski will officiate in his first Sheffield Shield Final. His appointment follows a successful International and domestic season. Nogajski was named 4th Umpire in the First Test between Australia and South Africa and backed up the 4th Umpire appointment in the Second Test between Australia and Pakistan in Melbourne. Nogajski was also appointed 4th Umpire in three One Day Internationals this season. Nogajski also took a significant step in his umpiring career this season, making his T20 International debut during the T20 series between Australia and Sri Lanka. On the domestic front, Nogajski stood in the KFC BBL 06 Semi Final between the Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars and was named 3rd Umpire for the Final.
Completing the Match Officials Team for the Final are Scorers Jim Hamilton and Vicky Hutchinson.
