Hat-trick of Test Match Scorer debuts

01 February 2019

Three Australian Cricket Scorers make their Test Match debuts across Domain Test Series matches around the country.

While the Australian cricket team welcomed new debutants this series, the Match Officials team have also capped three Scorers to the world of Test Cricket. New South Wales Scorer Kay Wilcoxon became the 110th Australian Test Scorer when Australia played India at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Wilcoxon is one of six New South Wales Scorers that officiate in Cricket Australia professional cricket competitions. Wilcoxon has been a long-serving Sydney First-Grade Scorer for the Fairfield-Liverpool Cricket Club, giving over a decade of dedication in the scorers’ box. Wilcoxon made her First-Class debut in the Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Victoria at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2012/13 and has been a regular feature at the Sydney Cricket Ground since. During her tenure as a New South Wales Scorer, Wilcoxon has officiated in the BBL and Domestic One-Day Cup. In the 2014/15 Season, Wilcoxon made her One-Day International debut and followed that with her T20 International debut two seasons later.

Queensland Scorer Peter Gagen joined the illustrious list of Test Scorers that have kept tally during the day/night match between Australia and Sri Lanka. Also President of the Queensland Cricket Scorers Association, Gagen became Australian Test Scorer number 111. Commencing his scoring career in Bundaberg in 1981, he is now a regular feature in Brisbane Premier Cricket with the Western Suburbs and District. In 2016 Gagen made his Sheffield Shield debut and has since appeared in BBL and WBBL matches this season. On top of that, Gagen continues to score Toyota Futures League matches with Queensland.

Today will be a first for both Manuka Oval as a Test venue, whilst ACT scorer Rammanee Shivakkumar will also make her debut alongside Adam Morehouse. As with the on-field action, the scorers’ enclosure at Manuka Oval will have a Sri Lankan vibe. Test Scorer 112 Shivakkumar was born in Jaffna Sri Lanka and has been scoring in the ACT since 2007. Shivakkumar has been a regular fixture at Prime Minister’s XI matches, scoring in the last five such matches. Earlier this season, Shivakkumar made her First-Class scoring in the Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Queensland at Manuka Oval. In total, Shivakkumar has been the ACT’s official scorer in 69 representative matches including Toyota Futures League commitments. Shivakkumar was also an integral part of the last ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015, officiating in the matches hosted in Canberra.

Thank you to statistician Adam Morehouse for his ongoing dedication and efforts into researching the history of Cricket Scorers in Australia.
