Tasmanian Nogajski elevated to Cricket Australia International Panel
National Umpire Panel member, Sam Nogajski, has been elevated to the Cricket Australia (CA) International Panel, and will be eligible for international men’s fixtures from season 2016/17 onwards*.
Nogajski, who balances his umpiring career with secondary school teaching in Hobart, joined the National Umpire Panel in the 2012-13 season after debuting at the Gabba in November 2011. In total, Nogajski has stood in 25 First Class games (22 Sheffield Shield fixtures), and been on-field for a further 17 List-A and 26 Big Bash League games. Nogajski has also stood in four Women’s One-Day Internationals, and a further 10 Women’s International Twenty20 fixtures.
In 2015/16, Nogajski was appointed to his first KFC Big Bash League Final, held at the MCG between the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder. This achievement was acknowledged at the Cricket Tasmania end of season dinner, where he was the first ever umpire to be awarded the prestigious Chairman’s Award. Unfortunately he was unable to accept in person, due to being in South Africa as part of an international umpire exchange initiative.
Nogajski had his first taste of the international scene by accident in January 2016 in Canberra. With official TV Umpire Paul Wilson having to go on-field to replace injured ICC Umpire Richard Kettleborough, Nogajski was called up from his Fourth Umpire duties to become Third Umpire for the first time.
Nogajski joins Simon Fry, Mick Martell and Paul Wilson as the four ICC accredited umpires on the CA National Panel. They support the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires during ICC international matches; including on-field duties for One-Day and Twenty20 Internationals; and Third Umpire role for non-DRS Test Matches.
*Nogajski still needs to complete the ICC International Panel accreditation process prior to being eligible for international appointments
