Cricket Australia (CA) National Umpire Panel (NUP) member Phil Gillespie has been appointed to stand in the upcoming Under 19 Male National Championships being held in Mackay.

Gillespie will fulfil an on and off-field mentoring role with the country’s top State and Territory Umpire Panel (STUP) members who will be officiating in the tournament. Gillespie has had an exceptional season that has culminated in several umpiring milestones along the way. Gillespie made his on-field Women’s Test Match debut earlier this season in the Day/Night Test Match played between Australia and India at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast. During that historic series, Gillespie also stood on-field and served as Third Umpire for the One Day and T20 International components.

Gillespie fulfilled a full KFC BBL11, Marsh One Day Cup and Marsh Sheffield Shield programs which saw him appointed on-field to the Finals of the KFC BBL11 and Marsh One Day Cup. Gillespie was also appointed to the Marsh Sheffield Shield Final as Third Umpire. Gillespie has also stood in Premier Cricket fixtures in his home state of Victoria underpinning his dedication to the CA Umpire Pathway. Gillespie will join the list of CA NUP members standing in Under 19 National Championships as mentor umpires. Former NUP members Simon Fry and John Ward both stood in the last two Under 19 Male National Championships in Adelaide and Perth respectively.
