50 Domestic T20 Matches for Phil Gillespie

Cricket Australia (CA) National Umpire Panel (NUP) member Phil Gillespie stood in his 50th KFC BBL match when the Brisbane Heat played the Sydney Thunder at the Gabba.

Following a playing career in Melbourne suburban cricket, Gillespie joined the Cricket Victoria Premier Umpire Panel in 2009/10. A Premier First XI debut followed in 2011/12 before being appointed to the CA Under 17 Male National Championships the following season in 2012/13. Gillespie was then appointed to the CA Under 19 Male National Championships in 2013/14. In October 2014, Gillespie made his Domestic One-Day Cup debut in the Domestic One-Day Cup match between South Australia and Tasmania at Bankstown Oval and has gone on to stand in 18 matches. 2015 was a significant year for Gillespie first being awarded a place in the National Officiating Scholarships run by the Australian Institute of sport. In February 2015, Gillespie made his First-Class umpiring debut in the Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Victoria at Wagga Wagga.

Gillespie was elevated to the CA NUP for the 2015/16 season. In December of that season, Gillespie stood in his first KFC BBL match when the Sydney Sixers played the Hobart Hurricanes at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Gillespie was appointed to the Final of KFC BBL|07 between the Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes at the Adelaide Oval in February 2018. Gillespie also has significant international experience to his name having been appointed to ten Women’s One-Day Internationals with a further two as TV Umpire and four Women’s T20 Internationals with a further two as TV Umpire.

Gillespie becomes the ninth umpire to stand in 50 Australian Domestic T20 matches.
