The International Cricket Council (ICC) have recently announced the umpire and match referee appointments for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup starting next week in South Africa, including member of the CA National Umpire Panel, Sam Nogajski.

Nogajski is one of sixteen umpires from twelve countries who will be officiating at the tournament from 18 January to 9 February 2020, with each umpire involved in at least five games throughout the tournament.

Nogajski is no stranger to ICC tournaments. In October 2017 he travelled to Papua New Guinea to officiate in the ICC World Cricket Championship fixtures between the home side and Scotland and it was there that he made his men’s One-Day International debut.

Throughout November 2018, Nogajski umpired the ICC Women’s World T20 in the West Indies, and in May 2019 he travelled to Vanuatu for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

More recently Nogajski officiated in the men’s ICC World T20 Qualifiers in the United Arab Emirates, including appointment to the final between Papua New Guinea and the Netherlands.

Nogajski will make history as he takes the reins for Japan’s first ever match in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup where they face New Zealand in Potchefstroom on the 18 January 2020. He will be joined out in the middle for this match by Iknow Chabi of Zimbabwe.

The sixteen umpires will be joined by three match referees for the duration of the tournament, with former Sri Lanka international Graeme Labrooy officiating alongside home official Shaid Wadvalla and England’s Phil Whitticase.

Nogajski travels to South Africa on the back of eight recent KFC BBL|09 matches.
