State Umpiring Seminars Underway
State Associations around the country are holding their Annual Umpire Seminars in preparation for the forthcoming summer of cricket.
The New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australian Cricket Associations have already held their Seminars with Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania to hold theirs in the weeks ahead.
Over 160 NSW Cricket Umpire & Scorers Association Members attended the Annual Convention in Wagga Wagga in August. The weekend provided attendees with a wide range of sessions from various experts in their field. Cricket Australia National Umpire Panel members Gerard Abood, Greg Davidson, Simon Lightbody, Anthony Wilds and Paul Wilson were all in attendance and shared valuable information on their own experiences. CA Supplementary Umpire Panel members Claire Polosak and Ben Treloar facilitated two sessions around Communication and Body Language which will serve all in attendance well for the upcoming season.
The Western Australian Seminar took place last week at the WACA Ground in Perth. Among the presenters were Cricket Australia Supplementary Umpire Panel member Nathan Johnstone, new State Umpire Coach Melissa Trvic and WA State Panel Umpires James Hewitt, Jack Paterson, Dean Trigg and Ashlee Gibbons. The program covered a range of topics from Decision-making, Preparation, Player and Match Management and Fieldcraft. While the umpires were being put through their paces, the WACA ran its inaugural Umpire Observers Course which was facilitated by Simon Taufel.
The South Australia and Victorian Umpire Seminars will run on the weekend of 15-16 September whiles the Tasmanian Umpire Seminar will take place on Sunday 23 September. Updates will be provided as these seminars take place along with a summary from the Queensland Seminar weekend.
