Cricket Australia (CA) Supplementary Umpire Panel member Nathan Johnstone has made his on-field umpiring debut in the KFC BBL|08 match between the Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars.

Commencing his umpiring career with the Western Australian Premier Cricket competition in the early 2000s, Johnstone made his List-A Debut in 2010 at his home ground the WACA in the fixture between Western Australia and Queensland. In 2017/18 he was elevated to the CA Supplementary Panel and in November that year made his First-Class Umpiring debut in the fixture between CA XI and England in the four-Day Tour Match in Townsville.

Johnstone has been on the Domestic T20 scene for several seasons fulfilling Third and Fourth Umpire duties along the way. Johnstone was first appointed in the WACA Third Umpire’s box in January 2011 in the former state-based T20 competition in the match between Western Australia and Victoria. He has a further nine Third Umpire appointments to his name in the KFC BBL, five of those matches coming in the last month.

Since joining CA’s Supplementary Umpire Panel, Johnstone has followed a familiar career path to this point coming through the underage National Championships, Toyota Futures League and WBBL in previous seasons. Johnstone has officiated on-field in 11 Women’s Domestic T20 Matches including the 2018 Boxing Day WBBL Match between the Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat at Perth Stadium. On the international stage, Johnstone was appointed to the Under 19 International Series in Hobart between Australia and Sri Lanka in 2017. This complemented an Under 19 International Test Match earlier in his career in April 2009 where Australia hosted India at the WACA.

Johnstone becomes the 7th West Australian Umpire to officiate on-field in an Australian Domestic T20 match. He was joined on-field by Gerard Abood with Simon Lightbody filling Third Umpire duties. The Playing Control Team will also featured James Hewitt as Fourth Umpire with David Talalla overseeing proceedings as Match Referee.
