Marais Erasmus and Chris Gaffaney

The International Cricket Council (ICC) in conjunction with Cricket Australia have announced the Playing Control Teams (PCT) overseeing proceedings during the upcoming Magellan Ashes Test Series.

The first of the five Test Series commences in Brisbane next Thursday and will feature Aleem Dar (Pakistan) and Marais Erasmus (South Africa) on field, whilst Chris Gaffaney (New Zealand) has been appointed Third Umpire for the opening fixture. Dar is the most experienced of the group with 134 Tests to his name (114 on-field and a further 20 as Third Umpire) and returns to Australian shores after officiating in the Australia versus South Africa Series last season. Erasmus (45 Tests on-field) and Gaffaney (16 Tests on-field) reunite in Australia following the Australia versus West Indies Series in 2015/16. West Indian Richie Richardson has been appointed Match Referee.

The traditional Boxing Day Test will signal a changing of the guard, with S Ravi (India), Kumar Dharmasena (Sri Lanka); Joel Wilson (West Indies) and Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle (Sri Lanka) to officiate in both Melbourne and Sydney Tests.

Australia ICC International Panel members Paul Wilson, Sam Nogajski and Gerard Abood will undertake Fourth Umpire duties across the Series. Meanwhile off-field some of Australia’s most experienced Scorers have been appointed across the country, including Gail Cartwright and Cliff Howard who will open the Series in Brisbane.
