Kent Hannam makes List-A Match Referee Debut
Cricket Australia (CA) Match Referee Panel (MRP) member Kent Hannam has made his List-A Match Referee debut in the Marsh One Day Cup match between Victoria and Tasmania at the CitiPower Centre.
Hannam had a distinguished coaching career in Victoria leading the Hawthorn-Waverley and Fitzroy-Doncaster Cricket Clubs. Hannam then coached the Victorian Second XI and was assistant coach for the Victorian Women’s cricket team. Outside of cricket, Kent’s involvement in elite sport extended to the AFL where he was a runner for the St Kilda and North Melbourne Football Club’s, the latter including two AFL Premierships in the 1990’s.
Hannam joined the Match Referee ranks prior to the 2015/16 season and was duly appointed to the first two editions of the rebel WBBL in 2015/16 and in 2016/17. Prior to the 2017/18 season, Cricket Australia established the Supplementary Match Referee Panel (SRP) to which he was appointed as an inaugural member. Since joining the Match Referee ranks, Hannam has been appointed to the various CA underage National Championships, together with Second XI, WBBL and WNCL matches
Hannam’s refereeing career thus far has yielded 46 rebel WBBL matches including the Semi Final between the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder earlier this year. His tally is the most of any Match Referee in that competition. Hannam also has seven WNCL matches, together with appointments to the 2017/18 Under 19 One Day Internationals between Australia and Pakistan in Melbourne, and a 2019/20 England Lions tour match. Hannam formed part of CA’s new nine member NRP at the start of this season and made his KFC BBL debut earlier this season when the Sydney Thunder played the Perth Scorchers at Manuka Oval back in December and went on to officiate in seven BBL10 matches.
Hannam was joined by on-field umpires Simon Lightbody and Shawn Craig whilst Darren Close fulfilled Third Umpire duties for the match.
