JLT Sheffield Shield Match Official appointments announced

Sheffield Shield announcement

Congratulations to all Match Officials who have been appointed to officiate upcoming JLT Sheffield Shield fixtures around the country.

The 2018/19 JLT Sheffield Shield season commences on Tuesday 16 October across Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Having made his First-Class debut in the Tour Match between the CA XI and England last season, in round one Nathan Johnstone stands in his first Sheffield Shield fixture. Johnstone is no stranger to the WACA, having stood in five List-A matches at the ground, along with the last six WACA Premier Cricket Finals. Johnstone will stand with Sam Nogajski, whilst the Match Referee is Peter Marshall.

Likewise, Victorian David Shepard stands in his first Sheffield Shield fixture after making his First-Class debut in a Tour Match at Adelaide Oval in November 2017. Shepard recently made his List-A debut as part of the JLT One-Day Cup at CitiPower Centre (Junction Oval) and will stand in the four-day fixture at the MCG featuring the same teams of Victoria and South Australia. Phil Gillespie and David Talalla (Match Referee) has also been appointed to this fixture.

In round two at the Adelaide Oval, Geoff Joshua makes his 50th First Class appearance at the same venue he made his debut in October 2009. In that fixture between South Australia and Victoria, Joshua stood alongside current ICC Elite Panel member Rod Tucker. In his 50th appearance featuring South Australia and Queensland, Joshua will be joined in the middle by Tony Wilds, whilst David Talalla is Match Referee. In total, Joshua has officiated in 45 Sheffield Shield games; two Sunfoil Series matches (South Africa); one Plunkett Shield match (New Zealand) and a Tour Match between Victoria and England.
