Victorian Umpiring Pair reach Milestone Together
Victorian Premier Cricket Umpire Panel members Darrel Holt and Dan Bomford will bring up significant milestones together when they stand in their Premier Cricket fixture this weekend.
Holt will stand in his 700th Cricket Victoria match whilst Bomford will stand in his 650th. The pair have been appointed together for their Second XI match between Footscray and Casey-South Melbourne. Their combined tally of 1,350 matches makes them the most experienced pairing in any Victorian Premier match.
Holt commenced umpiring Victorian District Cricket in 1980/81 and has stood in all levels of Victorian Cricket. Holt’s tally includes one Women’s One Day International, 32 First-Class, six List-A, 366 First XI and 253 Second XI matches. Bomford commenced umpiring Victorian District Cricket in 1979/80 and among his tally of matches are 329 Men’s Premier First XI and 259 Men’s Premier Second XI matches.
Holt and Bomford are Life Members of the Victorian Cricket Association Umpires & Scorers Association (VCAUSA), having both served in various committee positions for many years. Bomford was awarded Life Membership of the association in 1989, whilst Holt was made a Life Member in 1995.
Holt and Bomford’s contribution to Victorian Cricket umpiring extends off the field where they act as umpire advisers to community cricket associations in metropolitan Melbourne. On the field, both Holt and Bomford serve as mentors to the panel throughout the grades and act as on-field observers in the Premier Second XI. Both umpires have served Victorian Cricket with distinction for over four decades and continue to do so. Congratulations to both umpires on achieving these major milestones.
