Match Referee David Gilbert KFC BBL Debut
David Gilbert will make his KFC BBL Match Refereeing debut at Blundstone Arena, in the first BBL10 match of the season between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Sydney Sixers.
Gilbert forms part of the Cricket Australia (CA) Match Referee Panel after joining the Match Officials team last season. Gilbert made his First-Class referee debut last season in the Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and South Australia at Bankstown Oval.
As a player, right-arm fast bowler Gilbert debuted for Australia against England at The Oval in August 1985. He played nine Test Matches in total, and a further 14 One-Day Internationals during the 1980’s. Gilbert played 127 First-Class matches, which included representing New South Wales, Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield, as well as a stint in England for Gloucestershire. During this time he took 354 First-Class wickets.
Gilbert served as Cricket New South Wales CEO between 2003 and 2014. He was also instrumental in bringing international cricket to ANZ Stadium and extending Cricket New South Wales’ footprint throughout the key growth area of Western Sydney with the development of Blacktown International Sportspark.
In addition to his First-Class Match Referee debut, Gilbert was appointed to the WNCL Final between New South Wales and Western Australia at North Sydney Oval last season.
Gilbert debuts alongside On-field umpires Paul Wilson and Sam Nogajski, with Donovan Koch and Mike Graham-Smith fulfilling the Third and Fourth Umpire duties.
