Cricket Umpires Australia

Fry rushed to India to replace Reiffel

14 December 2016

Simon Fry - SL v ZIM

Australian Umpire Simon Fry has been appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to the Fifth Test between India and England in Chennai.

Fry replaces fellow Australian Paul Reiffel, who was withdrawn from the Fourth Test in Mumbai following a concussion from a wayward throw.

The appointment comes off the back of a two match Test Series in Harare and another Series in New Zealand in October and November respectively.

This will be Fry’s fifth on-field Test Match appointment since his debut in Sri Lanka in October 2015. Since that time, Fry has also been appointed by the ICC to the ICC Women’s World Cup during March/April in India and England versus Pakistan One-Day International Series in the United Kingdom throughout August. Fry returned to Australian shores for the Matador One-Day Cup tournament in October before travelling to Zimbabwe.

Fry joins Playing Control Team (PCT) of ICC Elite Panel members Marais Erasmus and fellow Australian Bruce Oxenford, whilst Jeff Crowe is the Match Referee.
