Fry and Bernard on assignment in Papua New Guinea

Simon Fry

Australian Umpire Simon Fry and Match Referee Steve Bernard have travelled to Papua New Guinea (PNG) to officiate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier event.

Alongside host nation PNG, the Philippines and Vanuatu will compete for a spot in the final round of qualifying. Fry will umpire whilst CA National Match Referee Panel member Steve Bernard will oversee proceedings in the six-match series. Unfortunately the first round of matches were postponed due to a tropical storm. The reserve days will now be utilised to ensure all six matches are played. The delayed start to the tournament has allowed both Fry and Bernard to meet with the PNG match officials and run umpire development sessions.

To date, Fry has officiated in 16 T20 Internationals on-field with a further 11 as Third Umpire. Fry’s most recent appointment was to the T20 International between Australia and India at the MCG in November 2018.

The series can be followed here.
