Eloise Sheridan

Eloise Sheridan will make her Women’s Test Match umpiring debut today in the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Ashes Test Match between Australia and England at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Sheridan was this season elevated to Cricket Australia’s (CA) Supplementary Umpire Panel (SUP) following six years standing in the South Australian Premier Cricket competition which also included three seasons on the State Umpire Panel (STUP). Prior to umpiring, Sheridan had a successful Premier Cricket playing career with the Sturt and Kensington Cricket Clubs before retiring from playing at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Sheridan’s umpiring career progressed through the extensive CA umpire pathway standing in each of CA’s Underage National Championships during her career. In addition, Sheridan officiated at the inaugural National Premier Cricket T20 competition in 2018/19 which also included appointment to the Final. Sheridan rounded out the year with an historic appointment to the SACA Premier First Grade Final.

In May 2019, Sheridan was appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to the International Panel of ICC Development Umpires. In August the same year, Sheridan travelled to Scotland to officiate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifying tournament making her Women’s T20 International debut. Sheridan stood with fellow Australian Claire Polosak in the Semi Final between Papua New Guinea and Thailand. The following season, Sheridan stood alongside Polosak in the Women’s International Tour match at Drummoyne Oval between the Governor General’s XI and India.
At the end of the 2019/20 season, Sheridan was recognised by the South Australia Cricket Association (SACA) by being named the SACA Grade Cricket Umpire of the Year for the first time. Earlier this season, Sheridan made her Women’s One Day International when Australia played India in the Commonwealth Bank India/Australia Series at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay. Sheridan was also Fourth Umpire for that series’ Test Match at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast. In addition to these achievements, Sheridan has nine Women’s T20 Internationals to her name.

Sheridan becomes just the 66th Australian cricket umpire to stand in a Women’s Test Match and will stand alongside fellow Test Match debutant Mike Graham-Smith. CA National Umpire Panel member Bruce Oxenford has been appointed Third Umpire whilst Claire Polosak has been appointed as Fourth Umpire. Overseeing proceedings will be ICC Match Referee Steve Bernard.
