Donovan Koch on umpire exchange in New Zealand
Donovan Koch on umpire exchange in New Zealand Cricket Australia National Umpire Panel (NUP) member Donovan Koch has travelled to New Zealand to officiate in their First-Class cricket competition, the Plunkett Shield
Koch will stand in the fixture between Central Districts and Northern Districts at McLean Park (Napier) starting Saturday 22 February. Whist this is Koch’s first overseas exchange appointment with Cricket Australia, Koch crafted his umpiring on foreign conditions in England before relocating to Australia in 2012.
Joining the National Umpire Panel this season, Koch has most recently officiated the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Tri-Series between Australia, England and India across Canberra and Melbourne.
The annual exchange program between CA; New Zealand Cricket; the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI); and Cricket South Africa sees an umpire from each country officiate in the other First-Class competitions. It’s a development opportunity designed to improve umpire performance standards by exposing the participating umpires to different conditions, cultures, players and Playing Control Teams.
Virender Sharma (BCCI) and Stephen Harris (Cricket South Africa) are currently in Australia and will officiate their second matches in the upcoming Marsh Sheffield Shield round, whilst Ash Mehrotra (New Zealand) stood last round at the Gabba.
