Cricket Australia (CA) Supplementary Umpire Panel Member David Shepard makes his on-field Umpiring debut in the KFC BBL match between the Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers.

Shepard started his CA pathway in 2013/14 and was elevated to the Supplementary (formerly Development Umpire Panel) in season 2014/15. His First-Class Umpiring debut came in November 2017 when the CA XI played England in a four-day Tour Match. Coincidentally, this was at the same venue, Adelaide Oval, where he today makes his KFC BBL debut. Earlier this season, Shepard made his List-A Debut in the JLT Cup Match between Victoria and South Australia at the CitiPower Centre St Kilda.

Shepard has been on the men’s Domestic T20 scene for the last five seasons fulfilling Third and Fourth Umpire duties. Shepard first appeared in the Third Umpire’s box in January 2017 in the fixture between the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat at the MCG. He has a further ten Third Umpire appointments to his name in the KFC BBL.

Throughout his career, Shepard has been a regular fixture in the WBBL standing on-field in 24 Women’s Domestic T20 matches and a further four Third Umpire appointments including the 2015/16 Semi Final between the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers. This season, Shepard has officiated in seven women’s matches across Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane and Sydney including the Semi-Final between the Sydney Thunder and the Brisbane Heat. Shepard’s performances across the WBBL season also saw him appointed to the WBBL Final between the Brisbane Heat and the Sydney Sixers at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney.

Shepard becomes the 9th Victorian Umpire to officiate on-field in an Australian Domestic T20 match. He is joined on-field by fellow Victorian John Ward with Phil Gillespie filling Third Umpire duties. The Playing Control Team also features Craig Thomas as Fourth Umpire with Steve Bernard overseeing proceedings as Match Referee.
