David Shepard makes List-A Debut
Cricket Australia Supplementary Umpire Panel Member David Shepard makes his List-A Umpiring Debut in today’s match between Victoria and South Australia at the CitiPower Centre in St Kilda.
Shepard started his cricket career as a player in the 1994/95 season for Victorian Premier club Hawthorn-Waverley and over his 13 seasons amassed 193 Premier First games which yielded 313 wickets at an average of 23.25. On 21 October 1998, Shepard made his First-Class debut for Victoria in the fixture against Tasmania at the MCG. Immediately following this four-day fixture he played the first of six List A games.
With the combination of his Premier First Grade and State appearances, Shepard was inducted into the illustrious Cricket Victoria ‘200 Club’, which recognises individuals who have played/umpired or scored a combined total of 200 First Class, List A or Victorian Cricket Association First XI matches.
In season 2011/12, Shepard ended his playing career and transitioned to umpiring. Earlier this year he notched up his 50th First Grade umpiring appearance. Shepard started his Cricket Australia pathway in the 2013/14 season when he attended the Cricket Australia National Under 17 Championships. For the next three consecutive seasons he attended the CA Under 19 Championships.
In 2014/15 Shepard joined the CA Project Panel and was elevated to the Development Umpire Panel the following year and is now a member of Cricket Australia’s Supplementary Umpire Panel.
In November 2016 Shepard was Fourth Umpire during the Women’s Australia versus South Africa Series in Coffs Harbour, and last year returned to the seaside town this time as part of the Women’s Ashes One-Day International component. Throughout this CA journey he has also officiated in five Futures League; nine WNCL and 18 Women’s Twenty20 fixtures. In the shortest format, Shepard has been appointed TV Umpire in seven BBL matches
In November 2017 last year Shepard made his First-Class debut in the CA XI versus England Tour Match under lights at the Adelaide Oval.
