Mick Martell - 50 First Class games

Cricket Australia National Umpire Panel member, Mick Martell, celebrates his 50th First Class fixture in Townsville as part of the “A” Series.

Martell made his Sheffield Shield debut in October 2008 at the WACA in a fixture between Western Australia and Tasmania. Perth native Martell has since officiated in a total of 39 Sheffield Shield games; including the last two Finals in Hobart and Adelaide respectively.

In addition to his Sheffield Shield appointments, Martell has stood in four “A” Series fixtures and two Tour Matches between Australia and England in 2013.

Since his time on the National Panel, Martell has stood in five further First Class fixtures on foreign soil. In November 2012, Martell officiated in a Plunkett Shield game in New Zealand, before standing in two Sunfoil Series games in South Africa in February 2013. He was then appointed to Quarter and Semi Final matches in the Duleep Trophy in India in October 2014.

Martell is no stranger to umpiring off Australian shores, having made his One-Day International debut in New Zealand in January 2014. Since that time, he has been appointed to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL T20) last June/July, and to the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year in Bangladesh. Martell’s strong performances in the later tournament earned him appointment to the Final as TV Umpire.
