Ashlee Kovalevs to fly the flag in New Zealand
WACUA’s Ashlee Kovalevs has been appointed to the New Zealand Women’s Under 21 Tournament, commencing in Auckland on Tuesday 15 December.
After Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket introduced the exchange initiative between the two countries last year, Kovalevs will this season officiate in the week-long tournament.
The New Zealand Women’s Under 21 Tournament is played between the country’s six major associations and is a supporting competition underneath the White Ferns national team. The tournament will consist of both one-day and twenty20 matches.
In January, Australian Cricket will then welcome New Zealand’s Di Venter and Kim Cotton, who will join Kovalevs in Canberra for the Cricket Australia Under 18 Female Championships. Standing in the tournament are seven female umpires in total; the most ever females appointed to an underage tournament.
Kovalevs, who made her Men’s Second Grade debut in the WACA competition earlier this month, has been a recipient of a Female Umpire Scholarship for the past two seasons. During this time she has been appointed to the Cricket Australia Under 18 Female Championships in Ballarat. Off field Kovalevs is also an active member of the WACUA Committee.
