UMPIRING BACKGROUND
Why did you choose umpiring? | Took it up at an early age when a knee injured forced me out of playing cricket for 12 months. I enjoyed my first season and went back to playing cricket, knowing full well that I would return when my playing days were done! 5 years later I was back umpiring and haven’t looked back
Who has had the most influence on your umpiring career? | My mentors and every umpiring partner I walk onto the field with. You never stop learning
Describe your memories from your First Class debut | Nov 15 – 18 2011 - QLD vs NSW at the GABBA with Simon Fry. It was very hot throughout and the contest never let up. It was a big step up and an addictive challenge
Which is your favourite cricket ground to umpire at and why | WACA. The weather, the pitch and the people
What's the strangest thing you've seen happen on field | Bringing in the boundary due to the creation of a sink hole just outside the rope just before the start of play
Greatest cricket moment you've seen on field | To be honest, it is hard to pin point a particular “moment”. Every game you get to witness great batting, bowling or fielding
If you could invent a new rule for the game, what would it be | Double plays
Why should people get involved in umpiring? | You meet great people from all walks of life with one thing in common, a love for the game
What advice would you give to aspiring umpires? | Take on the challenge, embrace making mistakes and enjoy the best seat in the house |
